My orchid collection
I grow almost all of my collection under fluorescent lights. Over the years I have succeeded and failed with many genera under lights, now I have concentated mostly on Phalaenopsis and Angraecoids. I seem to have the best results with monopodials!

My stand that I built has three shelves, each with four tubes. The top shelf holds my biggest Phals and those in spike. The lights on top are hung from the ceiling, so I can adjust the height easily. As soon as I spot a spike coming I move the plant to the top, they elongate alot more with a greater distance from the light.
In the middle shelf I have the species Phals, A mixed variety of angraecoids and other smaller growing orchids, and the seedlings. I have many crosses that I have bought as small seedlings over the years, the anticipation of the unknown beats out buying mericlones anyday!
Each shelf is about 6" deep and is lined with a triple layer of thick plastic. I put about 3" of clay aggregate pellets down on each shelf to keep the RH up. So far the wicking action has done a good job against the dry atmosphere the light cart has. As long as there is an inch or so of water the humidity stays at a comfortable level for the plants.
Almost all of the Phals are potted in plastic with chopped shag and styrofoam peanuts. Some are in bark mix, and I am experimenting a bit with Semi-Hydro. So far, so good!
The phals get watered pretty much every 3-4 days, and the mounted plants and smaller species get sprayed daily...er, almost routinely daily :D I fertilize when I can, with whatever I have in hand. I should be stricter with my fert regime, but my life is too sporatic and hectic for order LOL

This is my plant window for all the higher light orchids I crave. It is a very sunny western exposure, and so far the plants have adapted well and most are blooming happily! I am constantly re-arranging everything according to season and bloom cycle, so this is only an idea of how it looks. :)
